So today I was reading Matthew chapter 4 and I think there are two things that are so cool about this passage. The first is the exchange between Jesus and the Devil while Jesus is in the desert. The first thing that Jesus responds with is the word of God. And he is able to respond that way because he knows the word. He has spent time with it, read it, memorized it. And that is how he is able to combat evil. Next you see that the devil responds by quoting scripture himself. Which is a good example to all of us in the world of how something good can be twisted and manipulated to be used for evil means.
The next part of this chapter that I think is great is later on as Jesus is walking along the Sea of Galilee. When he begins to see the men that are going to be his disciples he tells them to leave what they are doing and to follow Him. And they do...IMMEDIATELY. They don't hesitate, they don't say goodbye to their families, they don't pack up what they were doing, they don't run home to get different shoes and a coat. They go, right then and there.
I think those two pieces of scripture are great examples of how we're to live our lives on earth. Always ready to give an answer from the word of God, on guard against evil, and ready to leave everything and follow Jesus leading anytime he calls.
